Lyrium Burned

Description

When the idea for this came to my head I just HAD to make it. I sat down about seven in the evening, when it got dark and quiet around and started shaping the shield. I came to my senses when it was finished and realized it was six in the morning. I slept for the tree hours but woke and nearly run back to my table. The earrings! I had to make matching earrings! So I did ^^.

The lyrium markings had great impact on Fenris' live, I would even say that he would not be himself without them. They are his greatest weapon but at the same time his greatest weakness. They allow him to kill someone in a heartbeat but make his love life really difficult. They are the reason his former master is chasing him, but would he be able to run away without them? This contradictions fills Fenris with pain, hate, and above all - anger.

In this piece I wanted to show his anger, colored slightly with his confidence and maybe a little of fatalism. I wanted it to look a like a gorget, a part of medieval armour.

In Poland, there I come from, it's called "ryngraf". It was really popular and since the XVI century it was worn separately as a kind of pendant. It was usually in the shape of a shield and the design on it symbolize something really important for a person. Usually it was a deity, mother of god, the national emblem, family crest and such. During the rebellions the warriors had "ryngraf"'s with the design that showed their side of allegiance. But it really could be anything important for the specific person.
In Poland the "ryngraf" made of silver are not uncommon even nowadays, It's usually given to infant boys on the occasion of their baptism. My younger brother got one for example :).

I didn't want this pendant to be too raw though. I adorned it with delicate and complicated patterns, but I choose to use the same silver clay as the base, so they will not be too prominent, but in the same time the silver swirls and a few transparent blue dots make the light fluorescent markings more hidden. That is in the daylight.
When it's dark, all you can see are the markings.

"They know what I am. Let them come, if they find the courage."
The fluorescent markings on the set are exactly like those on the Fenris' throat. The triple dots I took from his character design, I'm sure they are there *somewhere* on his body ;). The earrings are helping to bring more dimension to the design. When it's dark they mark the sides of the neck of the wearer.

In the daylight this set is seen as a complicated silver designs, something not really obvious, but when world around darkens, it brings out it's other side. Just like the Fenris' markings glow when he is driven by anger, bringing out his savage and dangerous side. The lyrium markings - his gift and his curse.

The set is made of polymer clay. Pendant is 70x85 mm, the earrings are 25x28 mm without the hooks. The ties are silver-coated. Handmade and one of a kind! :)
