Description

The reason I fell in love with certain characters is their duality, complicated soul, inner conflict that is tearing them apart. This case it's no different.

There are so many layers of thruth and lies circling around Iorveth - the legendary leader of the Scoia'tael, rebel elven units - that sometimes it's hard to decide what to believe. If you ask a human he would tell you that Iorveth is a terrorist, a murderer and a bloodthirsty monster. If you ask an elf he would tell you that Iorveth is a freedom fighter, a hero and maybe even a martyr.
Some call him a visionary. Some call him insane. If you ask Iorveth himself he would tell you that he is just a bowman who somehow ended being a commander of a great army. But words can lie, don't they?

Humans are so afraid of him, its obvious in their stance, even if he looks harmless - bounded and dragged by a witcher to the prison barge, they fear him as the death itself. The elves are in awe. His troops are fiercely loyal to him, ready for his every command, they know that he is the one holding the future of the race in his scarred hands. And Iorveth himself acts so proud. He always stands straight, with his chin kicked forward, his hands folded on his chest or ghosting over the hilt of his sabre, his longbow primed and ready. He yells his orders loud, drawling them slowly in his sharp, dry voice, so he could be understood in spite of the scar - mutilated cheek and missing teeth in his right upper jaw. This scar, the right eye that is no longer there, hollow eyelid sewn shut, the disfigaration that turned beautiful face into something horrific, - that would have an impact on someone's life, wouldn't it? You really cannot see it in Iorveth. Maybe because the elves are not known for showing their feelings. Maybe because seeing countless deaths of his brethren and decades of hiding half-starved and cold in the forest made it insignificant. Noone knows. The elfen Commander never let anyone close enough.

But there are contradictions in him, those small moments that could be seen by someone who knows what to look for. A sharp intake of breath, the lips slightly parted, when he gets ready to stand proudly before whatever fate throws at him. The smile that never reaches his face, but can be heard in his voice sometimes - when he talks to someone he considers a friend. The way he looks down when someone tells something good about him, like he is ashamed, like he doesn't believe he deserves any praise. And above all his dreams. Iorveth dreams of a small wooden cottage, a crackling fireplace, a hot meal with fresh vegetables. He sees himself smoking a pipe, breathing in a scented smoke, with a warm light reflected in his eye and a delicate smile on his lips.
A bloodthirsty monster who dreams of peace and home.

Aaahhh ok, I adore this character, what can I say :D.
The pendant is made of precolored metallic polymer clay, it's 9cm long, 5 cm in the widest point and up to 1 cm thick. I used the leaf of golden elm, pressed it onto metallic green clay to make a base. I felt that it would fit for a character who is called by some "Forest Fox". The back of the pendant made of metallic copper clay and have the quote "No one will grant us freedom. We must win it for ourselves." Those words Iorveth said to the witcher Geralt of Rivia, explaining why he still fights. The pattern on the back is the same as the tattoo Iorveth has on his neck. It can't be seen on the sculpture because it's hidden by his collar, but I felt it's so integral part of him, that it should be represented somewhere on the pendant.

The pendant is one of a kind and made without use of any molds exept for a actual elm leaf. All is sculpted by hand including his whole face (yeah, I kind of got carried away and actually sculpted whole his face under the headscarf, the scar, missing eye and all :P You can see it here if you like: [link] ) and the lettering on the back. It's made of precolored clay, the only other medium I used is powder paint on his lips and scar. For example his eye is made of four different colours of polymer clay, not painted.
The edges of the pendant are painted with acrylic paint (gold mixed with black).
The whole pendant is laquered with matt varnish, only the eye is painted with gloss varnish to make it shine more "wetly". I added four black vaxed cotton strings and some green glass beads for the more "elven" look :).

Iorveth is from "The Witcher 2" game and belongs to CD Projekt RED.

Wow, I was sure the face was painted, which would already be great work, but sculpted O_O... I've been staring at the details for minutes. Beautiful piece, done with an amazing level of skill Worship.
